Worms returns with W.M.D.

It’s been 21 year since Team17 brought the joy of blowing the crap out of enemy worms to the masses, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing.

It’d be fair to put the Worms franchise into the same category as Tetris or Lemmings as a classic old-school gaming title, but Worms has stuck around a little longer always bringing out new versions in the psychotic, vertebrae free series. However, not all of these versions have worked. The unfortunate brief foray into a full 3D version of the game was a disaster, but to be fair to Team17, it was something they learnt from and swiftly returned to the classic side-on gameplay.

Later this year Team17 are releasing the latest Worms title in the guise of Worms W.M.D. It’s side-on (phew!) and is based on the gameplay that made the original Worms such a hit. The console based title will have up to six multiplayer combatants with both classic weaponry as well as all-new vehicle based means of destruction. There is also a single player worm-killing jaunt. Check the trailer above to see what you can expect when Worms W.M.D. is released on Xbox One, PS4 and Steam later this year.
